"Meh" morning in Famara. Was more about getting wet and doing some exercise than it was catching waves.

This morning in Famara left me unsatisfied, so when the wind filled in I had to go for another session in front of the house.
Plus, need to practice using the Soloshot which arrived a few days back!

First proper test of the Soloshot! Perfect conditions: no wind and family on the beach so no need to lock it in the car, or hide it someplace -- it could sit right on the rocks.
The waves were small-ish but glassy and predictable, so it's been one of the best SUP sessions this winter!

Rented a bunch of beginner softboards and took friends to try surfing for the first time. Sadly, huge swell hit and we were on the beach just when hide tide was pushing in -- it was more survival battle for them than surfing. Anyone who has been in Famara in such conditions will know what I am talking about ;)

Small-ish Jameos, but good wind angle. Was under the influence of watching SUP clips of me from Jameos a few days back, seeing that I need drop into the wave much later, so I did. And got washed. More than once. Good fun! :D

I almost didn't go in fear that it's gonna be too big. But then it was one of the smallest I've seen this winter.
Strong wind though, perfect for jumping. And lots of Pro's on the water which made it great fun!

BIIIG day on Jameos. Sadly, the wave was not proper ground swell so it was mushy and soft (for the wave of this size). A TON of fun still, due to even more Pro's on the water: Timo Mullen, Phillip Koester, etc.

Freak wave at Jameos
As we got to the parking the waves were OK, but nothing major. Coming down to the beach, the adrenalin started pumping: the waves were properly sized and the tide was rushing in - it's gonna be a tricky launch. Get it wrong and the rocks are a sure place for you.
Managed to get into the lineup in one piece and immediately got a super nice wave, the top section connected with La Surfera, it's just magic when it does. And another one. And another one.
On the next one, I'm coming up from my bottom turn full speed back up the wave and I notice with the corner of the eye the wave behind me (and I thought I was on a set wave, it was that big): Tim getting mauled in whitewater, two waves behind me. Holy shit, I've never seen it break this far out!! Wait, when this hits La Surfera ... OK, fuck it, I jumped out of my wave, shot downwind to get some safety distance from the peak and pulled the hand break. And waited. And waited. The mountain started approaching. Whooosh the rush of wind when a wave approaches and I was on it. Yep, by far the biggest I've seen here. Or anywhere for that matter. The beast started peeling of at the top of La Surfera and it held up a massive wall and I rode it all the way into the bay. Pure perfection.

Even though I already sailed Jameos in the morning, I really wanted to try out the new 9cm shark-tooth type front fins that Russell shaped for me out of old Flikka fronts.
They work brilliantly, especially in 4.2 weather! Can't wait to try them with 15cm K4 Scortchers that Mark is bringing in a few weeks!

Another great day at Los Charcos! Tried out the stiff quad fins in a close-together cluster: board loosened up! And I had a ton of energy, sailed bigger sail then other people (normally I choose smaller sails) and really attacked the waves!
Sadly, Soloshot was miss-calibrated, so the only shot I have is on of blasting around :D
