Small float & ride session in Charcos. Still learning how to use the Soloshot.

One of the best days at Jameos! Sunny, just the right amount of people out for plenty of action but not crowded, wind from the North meaning side-off and good sized waves!

Small waves and nuking wind this morning. Claudio was out on a 3.3! I rigged 4.2 and regretted it after the first run but was too lazy to go switch for 3.7.
Since waves were not particularly good for riding I did some jumping around :)

A nice solo session in the morning. Light wind, quite onshore, but surprisingly good waves. There are worse ways to start off the day.

Calima made the wind seem super-light, but it was enough for planning and trying a few speedloops. Need to practice them more regularly, I always need so much time to remember it's all about the rig movement!!

I was 100% there was no chance I'll plane today, maaaybe after lots of pumping coming in on the wave. But I planed out straight from the rocks. WTF. I'm not sure what happened: maybe the wind was super constant, maybe Russell's trimming of the battens on the Fringe did all the difference, or maybe it's the new K4 fins I tried today (15cm Scorchers, 10cm Ezzys). Mark says it's definitely the fins :)
Can't wait to try them on another day to see if I'll still be so impressed.
In any case, had a couple of really nice rides down at La Surfera!

Two hours waiting at Jameos, but it didn't happen. Too big waves, too onshore and light wind.
So went out for a freestyle session in Costa. Planed out and it dropped. So I was left with practicing tacks :)
Funnily enough, just as I came back to the beach, the shore break picked up and allowed for good body-boarding fun!

It looked shit from the beach and another guy with a SUP also complained it looked shit. Way too much water. We should wait for 2 hours, but we both can't do that. Bah, at least I'll get wet.
But then it turns out as one of the best surfing sessions I had so far! I caught a ton of waves, all good size with many (tiny :) turns on them. Super stoked! Celebrated with mojitos haha :D

The best day on Lanzarote so far?
It was one of those mornings. The swell is pumping (check the photo below from Jameos!) but there just isn't enough wind to get out. Tim suggested we go see if we can sail up from Punta Mujeres to any of the breaks on the way to Jameos.
Sadly all breaks were full of surfers and the wind was just too light. And black clouds on the horizon. Nope, not gonna happen. Maybe late in the afternoon, but we both had commitments then. We say "tomorrow is another day" and leave.
I get this about an hour later: "It's ON! Sailing out from Punta Mujeres!". What?? I look out the window: the sun is out and sea is full of whitecaps. I sprint to the car and start making my way up North.
When I got the parking I saw Tim catch his first wave, an absolute beauty. Come on, rig fast! The wind was still on the light side so I opted for the new Goya Fringe 5.0. "Am I gonna tear it to pieces the first time I sail it" was going through my head. Luckily I managed to rig it OK quickly and jumped in the water without much looking for incoming swell and swam my way towards the wind line.
Slow tacking upwind towards the peak. Yep, 5.0 was a good decision. Just on the edge of planing upwind, this will be perfect on the wave.
I've never sailed La Hedionda before. It's such a beautiful and predictable wave. A steep peak pushes you into your first bottom-turn and then you have a long wall to play on. The sun was out so the sea was absolutely turquoise and almost transparent before breaking. I was screaming of joy on every wave. And I got a ton them. Super predictable sets, you could see your wave 300 meters out, jibe on it, wait for it to build and then bomb down the face of it. Rinse & Repeat.
I have a hard time remembering riding a better wave. Lanzarote keeps on delivering!

FANTASTIC sunrise session at Caleta del Mero. Very low tide, rocks sticking out, but the water uber glassy with head-high peeling waves and a huge period. Also, some light rain that made the water look even flatter.
And no human around, the whole sea only for me.
