Lightwind faffing about with Mark.

Huge waves and not a lot of wind made it quite scary today. The swell had a very easterly direction and was forming way into the bay, different than normal. Almost got thrown on the rocks, and Mark also had a couple of good swims.
Glad I survived :)

Drove up to Jameos and waited, but it just did not happen today.
So I went for a SUP session on the short wave in front of the house. Surprisingly good one!

Planned to go to Arrieta, but it was flat. OK, Casa Chino then. Also flat. Jameos? Flat. Ghhaarrr. Caleta del Mero? Choppy.
Finally settled in Orzola. Onshore and choppy, but got a couple of really nice rides, good day!

I could barely stand on my board today, super light. Waves were really nice though, lots of power. So happy I came back in one piece, being able to upwind back to safety and all. To top it off, I don't remember seeing it this crowded. Tons of surfers out.

Carnage at Jameos!
Big winds and swell forecast came through! 4.7 weather with mast-high bombs peeling into the bay. 4 people went on the rocks, broken boards, sails, mast, and one ankle. Ouch. Jameos definitely took its toll today!

Strong wind and choppy conditions. Mark opted to wait for a late afternoon session (he scored it!), but I had other things to do, so went in. It was definitely not a standard Jameos, it was fully stacked on 4.7, bump & jump conditions. Funny how one spot can change in one day.

Just as I was arriving at Jameos, one of the locals was getting pummelled in a mast-and-a-half takedown. Ouch. Tim suggested we rather checkout Hedionda, so we drove down to Punta Mujeres. It looked good on the way there. We rigged up and sailed up to the lineup. And it just shut off. No more waves. Well ... might as well sail up to Jameos, right? It's looking monstrously huge, but the other option is to go home without catching any waves.
And huge it was. I have this image in my head of Mark racing down-the-line with plenty of water below his board and above the tip of his sail. And another one of Tim carving an over-mast La Surfera. I don't even wanna think how big the upper peak really was. And with light side-offshore wind, it was just perfect. Memories of this day will keep me buzzing for a long time, that's for sure! The photo below was taken two kilometers away and you can still see the wave peaking behind the rocks, it was that big.
When we came back to the car, some surfers who were out at El Cartel came by and said: "We were watching you up there on Jameos, it looked good". Surfers don't say that :). And they were almost a kilometer away!

After so many Jameos sessions this past week I needed an easy day :D. So took the fam to Arrieta and went to faff around in waist-high shorebreak in La Garita. Fun :)

FROOONTLOOOPPP!!!!11!!!!!!!!!oneone!
A day of light wind, onshore, messy conditions. I felt I had to go on the water even though only one other sailor was out there. I rigged my standard for Las Cucharas: freestyle board and 5.0 Banzai. The wind was quite light I said to myself: "If nothing else, I can practice some tacks".
Then on the first run a gust comes, I start planing and I see a tiny ramp downwind. "You only get one chance today!" was on my mind. I hit that little piece of chop, force myself to wait a split second than pull the sail over and sheet it in as hard as I can. The rotation starts! And it's going! Still going! BAM! Landed on my back, with my feet barely in the straps, but wind in my sail! Wait a second! Yep, wind in the sail! Sheet in! And I get pulled out and onto the board! I FUCKING DID IT!!! My first forward loop! On the shittiest possible day, almost no wind and cloudy! HAHAHAHAH! :D
